AGAPE: A CELEBRATION OF LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP

AGAPE

            What is Agape? In the New Testament Agape is charitable, selfless, altruistic, and unconditional. It is the way of God is seen to love humanity, and it is seen as the kind of love that Christians aspire. It is St. Augustine’s value of Love that most Augustinians live out inside or outside the University.

            Agape is mostly seen during Salo-salo held at University of San Agustin every time there’s a major event like, the Intramurals celebrated this August and the University Week on February. It is the time where every colleges and departments are gathered together to give some love by sharing their food to each and fellow Augustinians. Students per group in each class bring their own assigned food to contribute in a class. In that way, Augustinians share the value of love that St. Augustine’s imparted to us. This is also where laughs and good stories are told while digging in their own plate filled with different food that the class have contributed. This means of sharing food to each and everyone depicts how strong and bonded are the Augustinians as one of St. Augustine that leads to building “friendship” as one of the values that also portrays by St. Augustine.  

Who inspires me?

Inspiration? How crazy may it seems, but who inspires me today is some people from Youtube. They are called “Youtubers or Vloggers” I’ve been watching daily vlogs, inspirational, how-to or DIY’s (Do It Yourself) kind of videos. Actually some of them are just ordinary people living in the different parts of the world. How am I inspired by them? If in fact they are just average people living everyday who is documenting their everyday lives for their subscribers to watch.  They inspire me because they do fun and exciting things that I also want to do.  Furthermore they just don’t vlog or make videos to brag something they own or experience. It’s somehow a “job” and a “passion” for them. It’s a job because they are getting paid by Youtube, if and only if they reach a million views and subscribers.  It’s also a passion because they take pleasure in making videos which they could get positive and negative comments from their subscribers, that could make them a better person as well.

Here are my favorites:

1. BFvsGF and PrankvsPrank

What about them? They are Jesse and Jeanna, a couple. They are from Philadelphia who do daily vlogs and make videos of their activities for the day. Thay also have a second channel which is called PrankvsPrank. They do pranks to each other and I find it very entertaining to watch. 

Miracle in Cell no. 7 - Movie review

Miracle in cell no.7, one of the highest grossing movie in Korea, is one of the best family drama I have seen in ages. The mentally ill father and the intelligent daughter reminded me of I am Sam, but I liked Seung-yong Ryoo's acting than Sean Penn's.

Lee Yong-go is a mentally challenged man with the intelligence of a 6-year-old, which is actually the age of his own daughter Ye-sung who is much smarter than her peers. The two of them lead a sad life while Yong-go makes a living by working as a flight attendant at a international airport. But one day, when the police commissioner's young daughter dies in a strange accident because she slipped in a -18 ice and died painfully with a loosed bricked, Yong-go is the one who happens to find her. He is falsely accused and sentenced to death for abduction because he said that he murdered it and have sexual intercourse with the minor because he don't want to torture Yea-seong . Ye-sung is sent to a childcare institution and Yong-go gets imprisoned and assigned to Cell No. 7. The movie's plot and story are great and the story inside the prison also grabbed my attention and I loved the way the comedy has been blended with the emotions in the movie. I laughed my head off for a moment, the other moment tears rolled out of my eyes.

The movie's end is a great tearjerker and will force one to cry. I don't just recommend one to have tissues to wipe their tears but also a friend to have a shoulder to cry on.
